Sandbags are a popular method for flood control. Flood waters can endanger lives and devastate cities and counties, but small sandbags, also known as flood bags, offer a reliable, economical choice for flood protection.
Flood control management for municipalities means preparing for floods before they happen, implementing flood defense measures when storms threaten, and cleaning up from the storm's after-effects. Stocking up on emergency preparedness supplies is the first step in a municipal flood protection system.
Strong materials help to keep sand contained while controlling the flow of flood waters. Clarion Municipal offers two types of flood bags, each made with durable fabric, that can be used for sandbag flood protection:
- Poly sandbags
- Burlap sandbags
Poly sandbags are made with durable plastic for easy flood defense. Poly sandbags have a high UV HR rating for extended outdoor use and come in orange and white for high visibility in emergencies.
Burlap sandbags are made from brown or tan woven fabric made from jute plant fibers or similar material. While burlap sandbags provide the same amount of flood protection as poly sandbags, burlap sandbags are slightly more flexible.
