Surplus Collapsible Fuel Tanks

The 50,000 gallon collapsible fuel bladder is constructed of durable impregnated fabric, meaning the spaces between the woven yarns have been completely filled with a fuel-compatible polymer. Each tank has two 4-inch hose connections and one vapor vent. The entire fuel bladder kit was once a part of the Tactical Airfield Fuel Dispensing Systems and the Amphibious Assault Fuel System, it is UV-resistant for outdoor fuel storage.

The assembly also includes an aluminum chest for storage and transportation. Two lifting straps with a 4,500 pound work load provide additional support; a forklift is required for use. A ground cloth is provided for deployment. It protects the tank from ground abrasion and puncture, as well as offering some protection against leaks.

The flexible fuel tank allows the Fleet Maintenance department to temporarily store fuel for the city fleet, especially in rural or hard-to-reach areas. However, a collapsible fuel bladder can also allow the Emergency Management department to stockpile fuel in anticipation of natural disasters, such as hurricanes or other severe storms. FEMA employees and other first responders will need to travel the city during a time when fuel may be scarce.
